The Work of Askar Yegenbayev in the Translation of Examples of Ancient Literature

This article provides a comprehensive examination of the scholarly and creative contributions of the prominent Kazakh scholar, translator, and researcher Askar Egeubaev in translating and studying the monuments of Ancient Turkic literature. His translation of Yusuf Balasaguni‘s ―Kutadgu Bilik‖ and Mahmud al-Kashgari‘s ―Divanu Lugat at-Turk‖, and their introduction into academic circulation, are characterized as a significant step in reviving the spiritual unity of Turkic civilization and shaping a new direction in Kazakh literary studies. The research analyzes Egeubaev‘s translation expertise, his methodological approaches, and his principles aimed at preserving the artistic and aesthetic essence of the original texts.
The article reveals that Egeubaev‘s translations present the ideological, philosophical, and poetic system of ancient Turkic literature in continuity with the worldview of modern Kazakh literature. The study emphasizes the connection between ancient and modern languages, the historical and cultural continuity of the literary tradition, and translation as not only a linguistic but also a civilizational phenomenon. His academic perspectives demonstrate a synthesis of translation studies, textological analysis, and historical-comparative methods. The results highlight that Egeubaev‘s works reinterpret the cultural code and artistic worldview of Turkic peoples, thereby confirming the continuity of national spiritual traditions. His translations of ancient literary works, which convey the Turkic worldview, moral values, and statehood ideals, are recognized as a major contribution to the development of Kazakh literary scholarship.
