“Business Person” in the Kazakh Linguoconceptual System

Abstract

In the proposed article, the concept of a ―business person‖ is considered as an integral part of the conceptosphere, characterizing the business environment included in the macro topic concept of ―human‖; it is a complex linguistic and cognitive structure, including political, economic, and socio-psychological relations in society. It is known that the image of a ―business person‖ in Kazakh cognition is revealed from different perspectives when it comes to changes in society, the economic development of the country, and the place of trade in the life of the people. Therefore, through the lexical units analysed in the article, the external linguistic features of each designation were identified, and the language was described as a phenomenon vividly reflecting various spheres of social relations. It has been established that the image of a ―business person‖ in the minds of the population, in accordance with the requirements of the time, a certain period, includes knowledge arising from the activities of those engaged in trade, skills, and types of entrepreneurship. The linguistic expression of the binary pair ―business person – business woman‖ is analysed. It was found that the meanings of names such as ―trader‖, ―merchant‖, ―speculator‖, ―businessman‖, ―entrepreneur‖, ―oligarch‖, etc., are revealed from different sides in the concept of ―business person‖. New nominations in the structure of ―business person‖ are identified, and their place in vocabulary and language usage is characterized. The cognitive model of a ―business person‖ (risk-taking, able to manage time, financially competent, etc.) is identified. The linguistic units are revealed, and the denotational, connotative meanings of the words included in the structure of the concept ―business person‖ are determined by analysing the interpretations presented in dictionaries and linguistic data obtained from media and literary texts. Thus, a system of linguistic units has been defined that reveals the concept of ―business person‖ in the Kazakh linguistic and cognitive system.
