Abstract

In the article, the author defines the level of influence of the Turkic peoples on the transformation of the Byzantine civilization, in particular on the formation of the Byzantine social and cultural (spiritual) life. In particular, various historical data have determined the role of the Turkic peoples in the decline of Byzantium. In addition, comprehensive work was carried out to study all important information about the Turkic element of the Byzantine civilization, regardless of the language of their creation, any genres and types, including material cultural sources. Therefore, the initial basis of the problem under study is characterized by a special variety. This, in particular, makes it difficult to collect the source material scattered throughout all preserved written and material monuments. We have tried to comprehensively study all the surviving sources of the range of Byzantine, Muslim, Latin and Slavic languages.
In the Western Byzantine region, Greek, Latin, South Slavic, Arabic and Turkish written sources are considered the most important. Although the aspect of Byzantine-Turkic interaction we have chosen in science does not develop systematically (unexplored), its full-fledged study is impossible without a broad factual and conceptual context. We can say that this context was undoubtedly taken into account and influenced the course of our research.
